1. I recreated the hippogriff species of animals from Harry Potter
2. I think that the main way that my design differs from others is that the head and eyes are much bigger the way I drew it. Also, I made the fur and the feathers similar colors, while others tended to make the difference more striking. 3. First, I figured out the pose and composition of the picture that I wanted using thumbnail sketches. After I had decided what I wanted my piece to look like, I drew it in lightly with a pencil before adding the watercolor. When I finally started adding paint, I made sure to start very light. After I got the base colors down, I focused on texture, shading, and making the colors more vivid. Last I added the background, so I had to work around the character, but I would have had to do that anyway because the background color would show through the paint if I painted over it. My advice to someone using watercolor would be to start lightly at first on all areas that need color, but afterwords, don't be afraid to use a lot of pigment to make the colors really stand out. Also, a good tip is to test out colors before you put them on the piece on a scrap piece of paper, so that you don't accidentally add color much darker than you wanted. Then, it's hard to go back and make lighter.
